Engineer-in-Training - Edmonton Office

At RAE Engineering and Inspection, our focus is on determining and managing the integrity of pressure equipment, pressure piping, tanks, pipelines, and related mechanical equipment.  Our expertise in Codes and Standards, combined with our mechanical and materials engineering background, enables our clients to design, construct and operate safely and efficiently, while maintaining compliance with all applicable regulatory bodies. As an E.I.T., you will provide technical support to projects via trouble shooting, data management, calculations, shop and field services, lab services, audit services, or by preparing drawings, maps, technical memorandums, reports, manuals, specifications, or procedures, in one or more engineering disciplines.  You will be required to assist in carrying out technical tasks requiring accuracy in calculations, completeness of data, and adherence to prescribed testing analysis, designs or computation methods. Due to the nature of this position, there will be overtime requirements (evenings/weekend), as well as some overnight and out of town travel. Responsibilities
  • Provide technical support in a team-oriented environment.
  • Execute integrity-related tasks of ever-increasing complexity and specialization, endeavoring to increase technical knowledge and level of competency.
  • Prepare for review technical memorandums, investigation reports, drawings, procedures, maps and engineering assessments.
  • Utilize in-house and licensed software for data management and report preparation.
  • Under the supervision of the team lead, prepare proposals, budgets and schedules, prioritize activities, co-ordinate resources, prepare updates on activities to clients and provide input for reports.
  • Under the supervision of the chief inspector. Prepare inspection plans, undertake inspections of pressure equipment and pipelines, prepare integrity management program manuals, plans and strategies.
Position Requirements
  • Registered with either APEGA or ASET as Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T.).
  • Practical field experience on various processes (SAGD, refining, power generation, etc.) is an asset.
  • Experience working with Solidworks.
  • Demonstrated understanding of engineering theories and principles.
  • Demonstrated understanding of inspection techniques used in the industry.
  • Excellent computer knowledge – MS Office Suite, proof of competency required.
  • High level of sound and independent judgement and reasoning.
  • Strong problem identification and resolution skills.
  • Excellent technical report writing skills.
  • Able to communicate ideas and recommendations to non-engineer team members in a clear manner.

API 653 Inspector - Edmonton Office

At RAE Engineering and Inspection, our focus is on determining and managing the integrity of pressure equipment, pressure piping, tanks, pipelines, and related mechanical equipment.  Our expertise in Codes and Standards, combined with our mechanical and materials engineering background, enables our clients to design, construct and operate safely and efficiently, while maintaining compliance with all applicable regulatory bodies. The overall duty of this position is to ensure, with the use of examination and verification processes, that the end product meets the requirements of client specifications, public safety acts and industry regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and perform internal and external inspections in accordance with a specific code, standard, or document
  • Responsible for following up on Action items and other recommendations that they have written to ensure completion of that inspection job.
  • Responsible for obtaining all relevant client asset data including PSV information.
  • Work with client to ensure correct installation of equipment and subsequent installation inspections.
  • Assist in the audit process of client’s sub-contractors. Assist with internal audits (as per client manual).Assist with legislative client program audits.
  • Know of and being able to run with client PEIM/Tank Integrity Management programs.
  • Assist technical assistants with information gathering in order to keep Provincial regulators and client data up to date.
  • Maintain good relationships with legal authorities. Inspectors also have the responsibility to actively help in the reviewing and bettering of company inspection policies/procedures/guidelines if and when necessary.
  • Inspectors are actively promoted to gain experience and seniority in all aspects of inspection projects in order to work towards becoming Chief Inspectors.
  • Inspectors can be expected to take the lead on inspection projects as experience is gained.
  • This can include all aspects of managing such projects through proper manpower allocations, budgets, client meetings and proper reporting
  • Be actively involved in building a strong company inspector program and assist with the mentoring of junior inspectors
  • Exposure to NDT/NDE methods
  • Conducts tests to ensure quality or detect defects using ultrasonic, magnetic particle or liquid penetrant non-destructive testing methods
  • Set up and calibrate non-destructive testing equipment
  • Establish techniques for proper examination of objects under inspection, ensuring strict adherence to safety regulations
