WorkSafe BC Updates

  • WorkSafeBC has new first aid requirements now in effect for client sites in BC. This includes the minimum requirements for Class 4 Workplaces at some client sites, as defined by WorkSafeBC (see highlighted section attached: minimum-first-aid-requirements-pdf-en):
    • All vehicles on Class 4 Workplace sites must be equipped with intermediate first aid kits, per WorkSafe BC
    • Intermediate First Aid Certification for the jurisdiction of BC (not basic or emergency level)
    • Contractors must plan and schedule appropriate first aid and medical response drills per new regulations to ensure workers are trained, competent, and knowledgeable in summoning medical assistance and engaging in suitable communication methods
    • Contractors’ Emergency Response Plans need to be reviewed and updated to maintain compliance with regulatory requirements (training, emergency response supplies, first aid procedures)
    • Contractors must evaluate the potential use of air ambulance transportation to/from client sites and develop plans for monitoring issues that may cause a delay in treatment (accidents, road closures, construction, hospital diversions, emergency room closures)
