2026 HSE Updates Week of August 26 – RAE, ESC, Client Tips

Please review the applicable HSE Updates.

• Company Safety Meeting Presentation:   deadline: two weeks following the Company Safety Meeting
  • It is mandatory to review the Company Safety Meeting on SiteDocs and sign-off that you have done so. If the deadline has passed – you missed it but are still expected to review and sign-off the presentation in SiteDocs.
• H&S Bulletin: Answer due by 8am last Friday of the month
  • Attached: August 2026 Health and Safety Bulletin
• Health and Safety Committee: Next Meeting: usually Thurs before last Fri of the month
  • If you can’t join the HSC meetings,  you can still participate by providing feedback, questions, or concerns to hsc@raeengineering.ca. Please submit feedback prior to the next meeting so it can be brought forward.
  • The HSC meets the last Thursday of each month at 1pm via Teams
  • Previous HSC Meeting Minutes can be found in the Teams Channel and on SiteDocs
• Safety Rewards Program:  Where your commitment to RAE’s Safety Culture is rewarded!
  • Submit more cards! Be specific in how your coworkers contribute to safety! The latest PRC winners are:

• Peer Recognitions: Due by Company Safety Meeting each month
• Certificates Reminder:
  • Please send all your certs to raesafety@raeengineering.ca. We need to have them on file should clients as for them and submitting to safety sites for clients. SiteDocs does not allow certs to be downloaded and screen shots can’t always be taken (depending on the size of the file uploaded)
• SiteDocs Forms Reminder:
  • After completing monthly inspections, send the form to the branch manager for them to sign.

    • A worker was bitten by a rattlesnake after dismounting and ATV which was kept running while wearing their helmet which limited their ability to hear the warning rattle of the snake.
  • New Workshop: Building Safer Workplaces: Practical Strategies for Onboarding and Protecting New Workers (attached)
    • Join Energy Safety Canada for a free, full-day workshop designed to help supervisors, managers, safety professionals and employers better protect young and new workers on the job. This workshop gives you practical, research-backed tools to help young and new workers in high-risk environments transition from novices to confident, independent contributors.

    • Energy Safety Canada’s Careers in Energy division has released its updated Regional Labour Market Outlooks to 2035 for Western Canada, Central Canada and Atlantic Canada, providing region-specific forecasts on workforce needs, hiring requirements and labour market trends shaping Canada’s energy future. For employers, the outlooks provide a data-backed view of who is entering the workforce, identify potential gaps and shortages and help inform planning for training and orientation capacity ahead of demand. Read More
• Client Tips
  • A RAE client has introduced the 20-Second Scan, a simple way to pause before starting a task, look around, check for anything that may have changed or been missed, confirm the hazards and controls, and make sure you’re ready to work safely. 
  • The 20-Second Scan is completely verbal and visual. It does not involve filling out a new form, and it does not replace existing planning, hazard assessment, or Stop, Think, Act, Review processes.
  • 20-Second Guide: ABBIE: Conducted where the work is taking place, use ABBIE (Above, Below, Beside, Internal and Environment) to scan your surroundings immediately before you start work:
    • Above: Look for potential falling objects or overhead hazards.
    • Below: Be aware of hazards or conditions that exist beneath you or at ground level.
    • Beside: Scan to your immediate left and right.
    • Internal: Perform a quick personal self-assessment (e.g., “Am I rushing, frustrated, or tired right now?”)
    • Environment: Evaluate surrounding external elements.
  • When to Use ABBIE: This quick habit challenges the assumptions that naturally develop through routine. Run through your ABBIE check:
    • Immediately before starting a new task.
    • Whenever site conditions change.
    • Following a job interruption or break.
    • When additional workers enter your immediate area.
